Overview

What is ISO 45001?

ISO 45001 is the international standard for occupational health and safety (OH&S) management systems. It gives organizations a framework to identify hazards, control risk, meet legal obligations, and continually reduce work-related injury and ill health.

Like other modern ISO standards it uses the same high-level structure as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, which makes it straightforward to integrate safety into an existing management system rather than running it as a silo.

FAQ

Common questions

What is ISO 45001?

ISO 45001 is the international standard for occupational health and safety management systems. It helps organizations prevent work-related injury and ill health by systematically managing hazards and risk.

Can ISO 45001 integrate with ISO 9001 or ISO 14001?

Yes — all three share the same high-level structure, so many organizations run an integrated management system covering quality, environment, and safety together, which we can help you design.

Does ISO 45001 replace OHSAS 18001?

Yes. ISO 45001 superseded OHSAS 18001, and organizations previously certified to OHSAS 18001 were required to transition.

Is certification required by law?

Certification itself is voluntary, but the underlying legal safety obligations are not. An ISO 45001 system is a structured way to demonstrate you are meeting them.
